The TMJ is a flexible joint that attaches the jawbone to the skull. It allows the jaw to move side to side, backwards and forwards, up and down. It has links with many of the head’s principal nerves and muscles and some major meridians. Many chiropractors go so far as to say that the whole skeleton ‘hangs’ from the TMJ. Therefore the slightest imbalance in the TMJ can have serious consequences for the individual.
